I’ve put Kristen’s dress together enough for her to come try it on today, and it is pretty much a perfect fit! Take it in a touch at the waist, hem it up and we’re ready to go. The dark red satin dress is mock wrap, front and back v-neck, A-line style with gathered shoulders, and a wide belt with a big bow at the back.
She was very grateful that she didn’t have to go through the unpleasant experience of shopping for a dress that suits her taste. This apparently is not uncommon among women. I don’t know where the idea came from that all women love to shop. Many women I meet dread the chore of finding a suitable garment that fits their bodies (in all the right places) as well as their style. Maybe this myth was started because women often spend more time (because they have a harder time) finding something they like, and are more particular about what they end up with. A lot of men I know don’t even bother to try clothes on before they buy them. I believe this phenomenon can be traced back to the fact that women are judged more harshly on their appearances than men. This is not even necessarily a folly of man, because it’s women who judge each other on their looks and can be incredibly cruel in their conclusions. Most of this is personal theory, but it is rooted in what I have witnessed and experienced.
Anyways, I like to help where I can in providing women (and men, should they desire it) with a garment they can customize to their personal taste. We all have parts of our bodies we like more than others, and we all have a unique aesthetic that is rarely captured by the mass clothing market. I believe the market for custom design and sewing is just beginning to blossom. When you invest in a garment that you are very satisfied with, you will wear it multiple times, where as if you buy many garments that you sort of like, they will sit there unused. I am bringing my philosophies of waste reduction to fruition!
