This dress was originally a curtain that I bought at a thrift store many, many moons ago. I used an old lining from some other long skirt to line this dress, and an old zipper that I got in a huge free bulk of donated zippers. All in all, these materials are very aged. I made the base dress a long time ago, and finally finished it a year or two ago by adding the swirly sheer detail. It really makes the dress, I think. I love how this detail came together so organically and follows the movement, shape and curves of the body. I am often inspired by nature in creating clothes, and I think this is a perfect example the way I see the natural world. Old materials represent the recycling of matter, and the shape of the fabric grows around and fits the environment of the body like the flora of the earth.
