Gay pride fashion continues…

by andrea on June 6, 2009

Oh boy, my collection is coming together so nice! We had the fitting with the models and I’m completely finished 5 out of ten outfits now. Two models didn’t show up (jet setting to Paris! Bah!) so they are being replaced by two others who we will fit next Wednesday, two days before the show. Ahhhhh! What are they doing to me?!

Timeline stress aside, I love this stage of putting the last finishing details on the clothes. They look so much more… finished. The buttons and lace trims, top stitching, ribbons and bows… That’s what makes the clothes pop! Don’t get me wrong, the fabrics I pick are from the heart and really make a solid foundation for the designs. I have an unhealthy love for fabric (not unhealthy for my being, but for my storage space).

I am so excited to show off my creations at the show next Friday! My collection is made up of skirts, tops and dresses, for the bold fashion lover. As always, the fabrics I’m using are brightly coloured and boldly patterned, offset with black contrasts and feminine details. I like using stretchy fabrics in conjuction with the more structured ones, so that the garment fits to more than one specific body shape. When I’m making clothes for unknown buyers, I find that’s usually a prudent path. There will be a sale table for each designer at the back, so show attendees will have a chance to purchase the pieces they’ve seen right then and there. I’ll also have a few other items for sale in addition to the show pieces.

Once again, if you’re interested in attending this soiree of fashion, you can get tickets in advance for $15 at Sew Dandee (105 Osborne) or the St Augustine United church (444 River Ave.), where the show will be held. We expect to sell out! That’s Friday June 12th, doors at 8, show at 8:30. Dress as extravagantly as you want, it’s a gay pride, red carpet event!
