Navy stripes with pink and red

by andrea on June 24, 2009

Again, I wish I had some shots of the back of this dress! The cap sleeves go into a back v-neck and the pink continues with ruching to the waist, the knit fabric giving stretch to the torso. Also, there is a cute heart applique on the back of the shoulder matching the red trim on the hem and the shoulder straps. The back skirt is the navy fabric, cut on the bias which gives it a little stretch.

This striped fabric allowed me to use a few interesting techniques in making the dress. The stripes are diagonal on the straight grain of the fabric, so the side front panels are cut on the straight grain. The center front panel and the back of the skirt are cut on the bias, making the stripes vertical as well as giving these pieces slight stretch.

I think this dress is so cute, with the heart and the buttons and the bubbly trim on the hem, mimicking the heart shape. Dress love!
