Jumbo piping and graphic satin skirt

by andrea on July 5, 2009

This top was one of the first ideas I had when designing for this show. I wanted to make a neckline that was stiff, heavy, and round, kind of a spacey frame for the face. The rest of the shirt mimics the round shape with tulip sleeves and a curved asymmetrical hem. The skirt is made from a beautiful printed satin I bought last year when I visited Texas (and went fabric shopping of course!) There is a zipper closure with an attached tie belt knotting in the front, and some delicate narrow lace trim around the hem. The belt is made from the same colourful birdy fabric seen in the first outfit posted. It has a gold buckle and is elasticised in the back to allow it to fit where it needs to. I love that the model had bright yellow shoes to bring out the colours in the belt and contrast with the subdued colours of the garments! Models have sweet shoes.
